In September 2008, the Commonwealth Homeland Security Foundation was proud to present its kick-off fundraising event to support the Maritime Port Security Campaign. This is a major campaign to raise private dollars to secure the commercial and military maritime port infrastructure and the critical supply chain in the Hampton Roads region from disruption by manmade and natural disasters. These funds will support major research and development grants to address the best strategies, practices, and technologies to secure the port infrastructure and the critical supply chain it supports in the Hampton Roads region.
The goal of the Maritime Port Security initiative is the protection and sustainability of the critical supply chain, intermodal facilities, and the workforce associated with the port region, as well as:
- Better security for our ports in Virginia and across the Nation;
- Stimulate the innovative public-private partnership model to solve pressing homeland security issues; and
- Building on advanced university research and development capabilities in Virginia.
